“Knowing oneself comes from attending with compassionate curiosity to what is happening within.”
- Gabor Mate In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts
I’m Joy. I’ve been passionate about helping others navigate the often challenging path of recovery. What is recovery and who does it apply to? Well, even though my recovery journey has included finding sobriety, and learning how to shift my relationship with food, body, and movement, I believe that the tenants of recovery apply to us all and that the journey there is unique to each of us. To say ‘this is recovery” and “that is not recovery” is a very narrow lens because it is not up to me or anyone else to decide how your recovery journey should look or feel.
Instead, I work in collaboration with each client and allow them to have the experience of speaking their truth, gaining deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships as a way for them to build their own self-awareness in order to approach life with discernment.
I work specifically with:
Addiction; including working with the loved ones of those struggling with addiction patterns from a trauma informed lens.
Disordered Eating; overeating, obsessive thoughts around food and body, emotional eating, weight cycling (continuous loss and gain of weight), and helping people get free from dieting and diet culture.
Body Awareness: I approach this from a Health at Every Size perspective, helping to clients to shift belief systems around body size, body acceptance, and how to use movement and exercise for pleasure, joy, and well being that is not related to changing the shape or size of your body.
I provide in-person and online counsel and if you want to see if we would be a good fit, you can email me to set up a free 30min call.
My services do not replace psychotherapeutic work, eating disorder specific treatment, addiction treatment or the advice of your health professional.
